Denial Management Counseling (DMC) for Effective Pain Management

Description:
Denial is a serious problem in the treatment of chronic pain especially for clients with coexisting addiction and its related personality and mental disorders. This training will present practical exercises for motivating people in chronic pain towards more effective pain management. Upon completion of this course participants will be able to deal more effectively with clients exhibiting denial and treatment resistance and/or sabotaging their pain management treatment plans.

Key Note Objectives
Upon completion of this presentation the participants will be able to:
  1. Understand the role of denial for patients with pain and coexisting addictive disorders
  2. Identify the twelve (12) denial patterns by their cognitive theme.
Three-Four Hour Objectives
Upon completion of this workshop the participants will be able to:
  1. Articulate the philosophy of denial and denial management that forms the basis of Denial Management Counseling (DMC) For Effective Pain Management.
  2. Understand the importance of developing a treatment plan to teach their patients denial self-management skills.
  3. Identify the twelve (12) denial patterns used by their patients and understand what is needed to help them overcome their self-defeating patterns of behavior.
One Day Objectives
Upon completion of this training the participants will be able to:
  1. Articulate the philosophy of denial and denial management that forms the basis of Denial Management Counseling (DMC) For Effective Pain Management.
  2. Understand and implement the general steps of the DMC Interactional Process designed to manage denial in here-and-now interactions with clients.
  3. Identify and directly deal with the twelve (12) most common denial patterns used by their clients.
  4. Implement a treatment plan for teaching their clients' denial self-management training in individual, group, and/or psychoeducation sessions.

This DMC/Pain training also comes in a 20 Hour Certification Training format, similar to the other APM® and CENAPS® Competency Certification Trainings.
