Denial, Pain & Relapse
Sponsor: Women's Way
Managing the Inner Saboteur Day 1
Upon completing this training, participants will be more effective in preventing relapse by effectively using Denial Management Counseling (DMC) and Relapse Prevention Counseling (RPC) methods to identify and manage their immediate denial patterns and have an early Relapse Prevention Intervention plan that will enhance their recovery. Participants will learn how to help their clients identify and manage their personal denial patterns. This is crucial since a return to denial is always the first stage of any relapse process. The afternoon session will be spent teaching participants how to develop a strategic Relapse Prevention Intervention Plan that can stop a relapse before it gets started or if they do use again they will have an insurance policy designed to get them back into a healthy recovery process.
Chronic Pain & Relapse Prevention Day 2
A major focus of this workshop will center on identification and effective intervention and treatment of prescription drug abuse for chronic pain patients. This will be accomplished in part by discussing how to identify the most common red flags of prescription drug abuse, and the high risk situations that patients experience that lead to relapse, as well as becoming familiar with common pain management drugs of abuse.
Since chronic pain includes both physiological and psychological pain symptoms, participants will also learn how to differentiate between the two types of symptoms; how effective implementation of a multidisciplinary and integrated pain management approach can increase positive treatment outcomes utilizing the Addiction-Free Pain Management® multidisciplinary treatment system.

Successfully Intervening on
Chronic Pain and Coexisting Disorders
Sponsor: EAP-MAP 2010 Conference
Interventionists need to accurately assess, intervene upon and make appropriate treatment recommendations for the impaired patient with a chronic pain condition. This is even more challenging when prescription drug abuse/addiction are present because of a mismanaged chronic pain condition. Since chronic pain includes both physiological and psychological pain symptoms, participants will learn how to differentiate between the two types of symptoms; how effective implementation of a multidisciplinary and integrated pain management approach can increase positive treatment outcomes; and what components are necessary to treat the synergistic symptoms of pain and addiction.

Are We Managing Pain, or Fueling Addiction?
Sponsor: Annual Institute on Addiction Studies
Healthcare professionals including mental health and addiction treatment providers are called upon to develop appropriate treatment plans for the impaired patient with a chronic pain condition. This can become more difficult when prescription drug abuse/ addiction present; often because of a mismanaged chronic pain condition. Using a conservative 10% estimate, over 10 million chronic pain sufferers will experience substance use disorders. Therefore, an important goal of this workshop will be to focus on identification and effective intervention and treatment of prescription drug abuse for chronic pain patients.
