The High Cost to Families and Society As a Whole Due to Ineffective Chronic Pain Management
Today I want to talk about the high cost of ineffective chronic pain management for the individual, family and friends. It’s also costing society as a whole over $600 Billion a year in medical costs and lost productivity. Many people I’ve worked with over the past 29 years have lost careers their marriage and even had their homes foreclosed on due to the loss of their job. Other people have lost custody of children or even experienced legal problems from using illicit drugs in an attempt to stop suffering.
I believe one of the main reasons for these high costs are due to most people undergoing chronic pain management are only medicated-AKA symptom management. All the best practice chronic pain management standards state that to address chronic pain effectively requires and integrated multidisciplinary team. I take that a step further and urge that the pain patient is the Captain of this team.
Please check out my new Freedom from Suffering: A Journey of Hope book where I include an entire section on the role of family and friends for more effective chronic pain management. Throughout this book I bring my passion and my personal history of living with chronic pain for the past three decades. To purchase my new Freedom from Suffering book please click here.
