I feel a need to discuss the controversial role of opiates in chronic pain management. I am neither totally pro nor con about medications for chronic pain management but that it can have both positive or negative impact on the person. When opiates are all that is used for chronic pain management it can lead to many different problems up to and including addiction problems. It takes an integrated multidisciplinary team approach for positive treatment outcomes.
