I’m very excited to announce this newly formatted dynamic and experiential training coming to Sacramento on June 29, 2012—the title of this training is “Managing Resistance and Denial: A Strength-Based Motivational Approach.” Resistance and denial are serious problems for clients who exhibit self-defeating patterns of behaviors. This training will present an overview of a comprehensive clinical system for managing resistance and denial that assists clients to develop intrinsic motivation for treatment and a better quality of life. By participating in this training you will be able to deal more effectively with clients exhibiting severe denial and treatment resistance. For participants who have clients with addictive disorders, this training is the first step for developing a strategic relapse prevention plan. Please remember; a return to denial is always the first stage of any relapse process.
Upon completing this day long training you will be able to understand the philosophy of resistance and denial as well as the general steps of the Denial Management Interactional Process. You will learn how to manage denial in here-and-now interactions with clients and how to directly deal with the twelve most common denial patterns used by people with self-defeating patterns of behavior. Finally you will learn to develop and implement a treatment plan for teaching clients denial self-management skills.
